Huge support for our campaign to axe the Council Tax

Council Tax Must Go! That's the message from Chris Coleman and the Liberal Democrats who are campaigning to replace Council Tax with a Local Income Tax based on ability to pay.

Liberal Democrats have been leading calls in the House of Commons to abolish the Council Tax. The campaign has attracted huge support.

"Council Tax is a crazy and unfair tax," says Chris Coleman. "It hits pensioners particularly hard. Because it takes no account of people's ability to pay, a nurse or a pensioner can pay more than a millionaire."

Astonishingly, New Labour and the Conservatives still support the Council Tax. And they are also committed to keeping the Tax despite its crippling effects on struggling families and pensioners.

The forthcoming General Election will give all local people the chance to vote against the Council Tax. The more Liberal Democrats that are elected, the greater the chance that this unfair tax will go.
