Courts can display more courage than ministers over McKinnon says Clegg

5.58.34pm GMT Wed 13th Jan 2010

"This is heartening news for Gary McKinnon and all of us who have been campaigning on his behalf," said the Liberal Democrat Leader.

Commenting on the High Court decision to grant a judicial review into Alan Johnson's decision to allow the extradition of Gary McKinnon to the US, Nick Clegg said:

"This is heartening news for Gary McKinnon and all of us who have been campaigning on his behalf.

"Even now the Prime Minister and Home Secretary could step in to spare Gary McKinnon from this ordeal by ensuring that he is instead tried in a British court.

"It must be hoped that the courts prevent this unfair extradition and in doing so display more courage than our ministers."
